The Toledo Club – Toledo Wedding Photographer
How you met:
Bride: We were both living in Seoul, in the neighborhood he grew up in. We went out for the first time a couple of days before my birthday, 4 years ago. I had mentioned it in a passing conversation beforehand, and he brought a birthday present to our date. I knew he was special right then and there.
How he proposed:
Bride: I was totally unfair with this one. I was leaving for the States about 4 months before he would be coming to join me. So, I told him I needed to have a ring on my finger before I left. That only gave him a very small window of time to propose, which made a surprise very unlikely. He did somehow manage to still catch me off guard though! We took the train to downtown Seoul, grabbed hot chocolate, and took a stroll by the stream through the city center. I was drinking really slowly, which seemed to bother him. Finally after I told him that I didn’t want to drink anymore of the hot chocolate, he asked if he could pour it into his latte to “make it sweeter”. He then handed my cup back to me and asked if he had gotten it all. I looked into the cup, and he had written “Marry Me?” in permanent marker in the bottom of the cup. He got down on one knee, as I realized what was happening, and slipped the ring on my finger. It was very sweet!
Groom: She already told you the story, but she didn’t tell you that I made a mistake. I wrote “Merry Me” like Merry Christmas. haha.
What was the most memorable moment of your Wedding day?
Bride: Seeing Junyoung’s reaction when they opened the french doors and he saw me for the first time was absolutely priceless. He’s not generally a very emotional person, so I wasn’t expecting much more than a big smile. Boy, was I wrong!
Groom: Seeing Brittany for the first time as she walked down the aisle and how smiley she was while Sam was speaking during the ceremony.
What was the Funniest memory from your wedding day?
Bride: The funniest memory was definitely Junyoung and our brother-in-law dancing to Gangnam Style in front of everyone!
Groom: There was some crazy dancing at our reception!
Special moments you will never forget from your Wedding Day?
Bride: We slipped out for a little walk in the parking lot later on in the night, as things were winding down. Just wandering around in the cool air for a bit together was such a sweet little break.
Groom: We got to go to the hospital after the reception to see my mom in our wedding clothes and we brought her flowers from the reception.
What was your favorite detail you did for your wedding?
Bride: It’s nearly impossible for me to choose a favorite detail. I put so much of myself into our wedding. The Korean wedding cake topper and the Wedding Ducks from Junyoung’s mom, the handmade chalkboard seating chart, all of the handmade signs… Beside the flowers (which I had a big say in, but were beautifully put together by Keith Brooks), basically everything in our wedding was handpicked or made by me.
What was the flavor of your cake?
Our cake had 3 tiers. The small top tier was lemon, the middle was chocolate, and the bottom was vanilla. It was all frosted in a delicious buttercream frosting. Cindy at Cherry Lane did an absolutely amazing job. We couldn’t have asked for more!
Where are you going for your Honeymoon?
We just returned from Marco Island, Florida. We spent the week shopping, eating, and laying around either by the pool, on the beach, or on our beachfront balcony. Such a nice getaway.

If you could give advice to other Bride’s & Groom’s what is the one thing you would tell them?
You absolutely cannot prepare for every possible situation. We never could have imagined my mother-in-law breaking her hip the day after she arrived in the States. But things happen! Although your wedding should be a wonderful day to remember, it may not be exactly what you imagined. Don’t put so much pressure on making it perfect. Just go with the flow and enjoy celebrating the two of you. You only get to have this day once!
Did you have any DIY items?
I had quite a few. My favorite was the chalkboard seating chart, which I resurfaced, painted gold, and hand wrote. I also made all of the signs around the reception and in the halls, all of the place cards and thank you cards at each place setting, our wedding Mad Libs, etc. Basically anything made of paper at our wedding was designed and printed by me (including our invitations!).
