Tips and advice from other professional wedding vendors – How to pick a professional Makeup Artist – Jenelle Ahmad makeup artist Holland Ohio
I have asked Professional wedding vendors to share their advice to help make picking a wedding vendor easier and to share some important insight to help the wedding planning process go smoothly. Today on the blog I have advice from Jenelle Ahmad, a professional makeup artist in Holland Ohio.
How far in advance should I book my makeup artist?
Depending on the time of year you are getting married, it’s safe to expect to book your Makeup Artist at least 6-8 months prior to the wedding.
How much can I expect to pay for a makeup artist?
A professional Makeup artist knows their worth. You are paying for much more than the “product” of makeup. Time, travel, and experience are some of those things. Traditional Makeup is upwards of $50 and Airbrush makeup $60+
Do I have to pay extra for a trial makeup run?
This is different from artist to artist. Some do packages where it is included, but personally I separate the two. So yes, its technically extra but it costs the same as day-of. Some people ask me why I charge the same amount when it’s not the “real” thing- but really it should be much more than the “real” thing. This is where you get to have fun! You can play and be creative, try things you aren’t sure about, wow yourself with a new lip color or two (or three)! It generally takes longer time, and it’s time that I get to get to know my brides more personally.
How much time should I allow for my makeup to get done?
30-45 minutes for day of. Trial runs are usually an hour.
Do you have any tips for making my makeup look good the whole day?
I offer a Deluxe bridal package which includes touch-up items such as, lipstick, blotting wipes, Colgate wisps, and flexible straws (can’t mess up that lipstick!). These are great to help your makeup stay extra fresh all day.
How long have you been in business?
How many weddings have you done?
Should I have been counting? Oops! WAY too many to count. =)
What questions do you recommend that Bride’s and Groom’s should
be asking Makeup artist’s before booking with one?
I think it is important to ask how many weddings they will book in one day. I’m not saying they can only do one, but make sure they will not over commit themselves on your big day. Ask if they have a contract or deposit to hold your date. This will help to ensure they will be professional, and won’t flake on you.
Do you have any other tips or advice for Bride’s and Groom’s?
Do your research. Look at pictures from the artist you are thinking about booking. Make sure their style matches yours. ALWAYS do a trial run. This should be such a sweet time with your makeup artist. When you leave, make sure you are both on the same page with the look you are going for, and never be afraid to ask questions or ask to change anything. This IS all about YOU! You need to feel more beautiful than ever before. I recommend bringing any jewelry you may be thinking of wearing for your wedding too, to help get a feel for the whole look on your wedding day. Also bring your own lip color to see how it compares to what your makeup artist thinking about using for that day.
