Makeup by Madison North Ridgeville Ohio – Advice when picking a professional Makeup Artist
I have asked other Professional wedding vendors that I have worked with to share their advice to help make picking other wedding vendors easier and to share some important insight to help the wedding planning process go smoothly. Today on the blog I have advice from Madison, a professional makeup artist in North Ridgeville Ohio.
How far in advance should I book my makeup artist?
Brides should book their makeup artist at least 1 year, best if a year and a half in advance. However, sometimes artists have random openings throughout the year, doesn’t hurt to ask their availability.
How much can I expect to pay for a makeup artist?
How much you pay an artist is based on skill level, if you’re paying a very cheap artist, you get what you pay for. My specific prices are $75 for the bride which includes choice of airbrush or traditional makeup and false lashes. $70 for bridesmaids airbrush makeup, $60 for traditional makeup for bridesmaids, both include false lashes if wanted!
Do I have to pay extra for a trial makeup run?
Yes, either a makeup artist adds in the trial to the brides total cost or it is separate. My trials are $50, it includes everything you would get on the wedding day!
How much time should I allow for my makeup to get done?
The time it takes for different artists varies. It personally takes me about 30-35 minutes on the bride, and usually 25-30 for bridesmaids.
Do you have any tips for making my makeup look good the whole day?
Tips for longwearing makeup:
Airbrush makeup is the way to go for the big day. My airbrush makeup is waterproof, smudge proof, and it is 18+ hour wearing. It doesn’t go anywhere though sweat, tears, dancing, and all of the above. Also try to keep your hands off your skin, oils from your fingers can break down the makeup sooner. Liquid lipsticks typically last all day long and won’t come off on your partner when you kiss. As far as eye makeup I suggest waterproof mascara of course. Most artists use a long wearing primer under the eye makeup so no creasing occurs and it stays in place all day!
How long have you been in business?
I have been a makeup artist for years and years, however I finally opened my on-location Makeup and Hair studio named ” Makeup by Madison & Co” about 2 and a half years ago.
How many weddings have you done?
Wow I have worked with over 500 brides! Usually I do about 100 brides makeup a year, traveling from bride to bride on my weekends. It’s truly a passion of mine to make a bride feel so special and beautiful on the most important day of her life.
What questions do you recommend that Bride’s and Groom’s should be asking Makeup artist’s before booking with one?
I suggest asking:
Do you work on location?
what kind of prep do I need to do before trial makeup / wedding day?
What kind of products do you use?
Ask to see photos of previous work?
Do you have a travel fee?
Do you specialize in bridal makeup?
Do you have any other tips or advice for Bride’s and Groom’s?
My tips for brides is book early if you want the artist you want, hopefully it’s me 🙂
